Spotted during a walk at the end of May.
Some of the flock of a dozen or so Canada Geese that were grazing in the filed between Whitehill farm (now House of Water coal offices) and the derelict Sunnyside farm.My RSPB pal Chris Rollie tells me these geese are ‘escaped introductions’ and alhough braw looking birds are a bit of a pest as they compete with the rarer migratory Greenland whitefront geese. Iwonder if the whitefronts have been visiting here for centuries, for adjacent to Whitehill farm is Auchengee, which takes its name from the Gaelic achadh geadh ‘field of the geese’, a name which may date back to the beginning of the 11th century.

Walking on the wee deer was too quick for me and although it didn’t loup the fence it scarpered upfield.
