Recent Wildlife Sightings

The swallows are about, I’ve had reports of a kingfisher along the River Afton,

Have you got any other wildlife reports for New Cumnock?

Are any species more abundant at the moment? Has there been an influx of painted lady butterflies in New Cumnock?

Are there any species missing? Has anything disappeared?

    The fungi are starting to appear – one consolation to the autumnal feel to the end of August! Look out for the large bright caps of the orange birch bolete (Leccinum versipelle, especially on the bing at Knockshinnoch Lagoons.

  • Other species to look out for – has anyone seen any of the following? When was the last time you saw them?

    Various Birds of Prey
    Black Grouse
    Grey partridge
    Skylark
    Song Thrush
    Spotted Fly Catcher
    Linnet
    Reed Bunting
    Kestrel
    Lapwing
    Snipe
    Sand Martin

    Otters
    Badgers
    Barn owls

    there are many other important species around New Cumnock, how do you think these are doing today, any changes?
